Along the Indiana line, Eaton answers for the whole county. Its municipal court takes every township's tickets, misdemeanors, evictions, and small claims, plus early felony hearings, under its own clerk. The felony cases themselves, with larger civil suits and divorces, move to Common Pleas, where the Preble County Clerk of Courts maintains the record and appeal filings. Probate and juvenile share a division with its own records policy; never assume its files show in the general search. Two clerks, plus one guarded division. Match the matter to its level before searching. Then a Preble County court docket lookup takes a case number or careful name, and the counter fills in whatever the portal withholds.

Preble County Court Docket Routes

For Common Pleas records, the Preble County Clerk points the public to its e-services entry. That entry sits at pa.preblecountyohio.net. The site opens with a JavaScript session handoff, not a fixed page of public search fields. There is no fixed set of public search fields. Civil, criminal, dissolution, and divorce files all begin there. Nothing can be promised about filters, result columns, document images, or fees. That is only a starting point.

The county Clerk of Courts page is the official word on the Common Pleas route. It lays out separate functions: online court records, attorney registration, e-filing, and online bill payment. Treat those as distinct tools. None of them guarantees remote access to every case document.

What a Court Docket Shows

A docket, called a case record in Preble County court materials, is the time-ordered index for one case. Start with the court and the case identifier. Then read events by date. A public view can name an event. The pleading, order, or judgment behind it stays out of public view. Treat the field list that follows as a verification checklist, not a map of one portal's layout.

Case numberThe court-assigned identifier. Pair it with the court name because the same style of number can mean different things at different courts.
Court and divisionShows whether the file belongs to Common Pleas, Eaton Municipal Court, Probate, or Juvenile.
Case categoryHelps separate traffic, misdemeanor, preliminary felony, civil, domestic, probate, and juvenile work.
Chronological eventsMay identify filings, hearings, orders, or other events in the case history.
Settings and statusShould be checked for the current hearing date or outcome, then confirmed with the court when time matters.
Documents and restrictionsA docket entry can exist even when a document is redacted, restricted, sealed, or unavailable online.

Need a full filing history or a certified document? Go to the office that holds the case. A screen view alone is not the record.

Preble County Court Docket Labels

Eaton Municipal Court's annual report gives three labels worth learning for the lower-court docket. CRA marks a felony preliminary-hearing matter. CRB marks a misdemeanor criminal case, and TRD marks a traffic case or hearing. The labels also explain something people find odd: a municipal record and a later Common Pleas felony record can cover the same events. They are not the same file.

CRA
Eaton Municipal Court’s reported category for a felony preliminary-hearing matter.
CRB
Eaton Municipal Court’s reported category for a misdemeanor criminal case.
TRD
Eaton Municipal Court’s reported category for a traffic-violation case or hearing.
Certified copy
An official copy issued by the responsible clerk or court, not a payment-page result or screen capture.

One citation can generate several TRD results with letter suffixes for separate charges. A base traffic number might carry an A, B, or C. That payment-service convention is not a universal Common Pleas format.

Which Courts Keep Dockets

Preble County's courts keep their records separately, and each has its own access path. The Preble County Clerk of Courts holds Common Pleas records. It also handles records for the Twelfth District Court of Appeals. Eaton Municipal Court runs the countywide municipal docket. Probate and Juvenile work out of the courthouse with division-specific access. Pick the right court first. That keeps a municipal traffic search out of a Common Pleas portal.

Preble County Court Docket Addresses

Two Eaton addresses cause plenty of routing mix-ups. The Preble County Clerk of Courts keeps Common Pleas records. The office sits at 101 East Main Street, Third Floor Courthouse, Eaton, Ohio 45320. Eaton Municipal Court holds the countywide traffic, misdemeanor, limited civil, small-claims, and preliminary-felony records. Its address is 1199 Preble Drive, Eaton, Ohio 45320. Which court scheduled the matter tells you which address holds the record.

Probate and Juvenile form a separate route. They sit on the courthouse's second floor at 101 East Main Street. Their division policy governs probate records and any files the division holds. Do not assume a Common Pleas general search reaches a Probate or Juvenile case record.

Finding Court Dates and Settings

Start with the live case record, then confirm with the court or clerk. A recurring schedule can tell you what kind of hearing a setting usually is. It cannot prove your case is on the day's docket. Common Pleas? Use the Clerk's public-access entry in a normal browser. Call the Clerk when an entry looks unclear. Municipal matters run through the Eaton record path and court office instead.

Timing matters too. Eaton's payment service refreshes its records every 24 hours. A missed date or a brand-new result may not show right away. For an urgent answer, ask the office to confirm the active setting, the court or division. Ask too whether a prior date was continued. The Preble County court calendar page lays out the local confirmation chain in more detail.

Preble County Court Docket Dates

Eaton Municipal Court posts recurring blocks that make a notice easier to read. Traffic and criminal arraignments sit Monday at 9:00 a.m. They shift to Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. when Monday is a legal holiday. Preliminary hearings run Wednesday and Friday at 9:00 a.m. Sentencings, probation violations, motions to suppress, and trials to court fill Tuesday through Friday afternoons. Whatever the live docket says controls over the standing schedule.

Village blocks show how the countywide structure works. Camden pretrials land the first and third Thursday from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. New Paris, Lewisburg, and West Alexandria share Wednesday blocks. Pretrials run from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. Those are management blocks, not personal notices. To confirm an actual Preble County court docket date, call Eaton Municipal Court at 937-456-4941.

Keep the two tools apart. A schedule describes recurring blocks, while the current court record is what identifies a specific case setting on a Preble County docket.

Public Access to Dockets

Ohio Sup.R. 45 starts from a presumption that court records are open. That covers inspection and copying during regular business hours. It also covers remote electronic access where it exists. It does not promise every case or document is public online, though. In Preble County the route runs through the office that holds the file. That means the Common Pleas Clerk for its case records, Eaton Municipal Court for municipal files, and the Probate or Juvenile division for records in its custody.

Key Ohio access rules:

Ohio Sup.R. 45 presumes court records are open while defining direct and remote access.

R.C. 2303.12 addresses Common Pleas general dockets, case files, and qualifying online availability.

R.C. 2303.901 requires omission of listed personal identifiers from court documents.

R.C. 149.43 is Ohio’s Public Records Act, while court case-document access is specifically governed by the Rules of Superintendence.

Access has limits even with the law on your side. A court can redact protected information or restrict a record under the applicable rule or order.

Preble County Court Docket Limits

A docket search can come back thinner than expected for valid legal reasons. Ohio law shields listed personal identifiers and allows restricted access under Sup.R. 45. Domestic and juvenile files often hold protected health, assessment, custody, and financial material. So a public docket may name the case. The document itself may stay withheld or redacted. An online absence alone never tells you why.

Juvenile records call for their own inquiry. Preble's Probate and Juvenile policy states that some records are protected, sealed, or limited to parties. Identification may be required. With a juvenile question, call the Juvenile Court at 937-456-8136 rather than guessing at case status from a public search. The division policy also walks through its public-records request process.

Preble County court docket Probate and Juvenile court information

Each division runs its own administration. That is why a Preble County court docket search should not assume every courthouse record follows the General Division online route.

Note: A sealed, restricted, or redacted file may require a court-specific inquiry. The responsible office can explain any access limit that applies.

The Clerk and Docket Records

Shonda Haynes serves as the elected Preble County Clerk of Courts. Her office maintains Common Pleas records. It also identifies records for the Twelfth District Court of Appeals. Staff can help with access to existing case records, copying, certification, and portal support. They do not give legal advice. For a Common Pleas request, have the court, the case number if known, the party role, and the date range ready. Also state what you need: a docket, plain copy, certified copy, or date confirmation.

Municipal records are a separate world. Eaton Municipal Court Clerk Sherry A. Hurst holds that court's traffic, misdemeanor, preliminary felony, limited civil, and small-claims case records. A felony preliminary file and the later Common Pleas criminal file can be related. Yet they remain two distinct court records.

Preble County Court Docket Portal

Preble County runs its own e-filing system through the Clerk of Courts. The local rules cover civil, criminal, dissolution, and divorce filings. That is a filing rule. It does not promise the public can view every filed document. Access runs through a browser session gateway, so follow whatever the current screen tells you. If a search field, result, or document is missing, contact the Clerk directly.

An Ohio Supreme Court grant paid for the local implementation. The Clerk does not name a software vendor. It gives no adoption date, no pre-digital index, and no count of years available online. For older Common Pleas records, R.C. 2303.12 applies. It gives you grounds to ask the Clerk about readable access. Probate and Juvenile keep their current retention schedules at the courthouse.

Court Dockets by City in Preble County

Eaton is the county seat. It is also the only incorporated city in Preble County. Camden, Lewisburg, New Paris, and West Alexandria remain villages. Even so, official materials point to one court with jurisdiction across the whole county: Eaton Municipal Court. Each municipality gets its own profile below. In practice, though, one court docket handles it all. Traffic, misdemeanor, eligible limited civil, small-claims, and preliminary-felony matters all land on the same Eaton docket. No separate village court or portal takes them.

West Alexandria Court Docket

Preble County Court Docket History

Eaton Municipal Court opened on January 1, 1956. Its territory covers all of Preble County. Its 2024 annual report describes a Clerk’s Office that schedules hearings, trials, and dispositions. The same office runs searches, maintains records start to finish, and reports information to state agencies. That countywide reach matters. A citation written in a village can still land on an Eaton docket.

The 2020 Census counted 40,999 Preble County residents. The court's own filing sources show the same pattern. Eaton’s annual report names the City of Eaton, the County Sheriff, state agencies, Hueston Woods State Park, and villages such as Camden, Lewisburg, New Paris, and West Alexandria. The report adds civic color. It is not a stand-in for the live case record or a current court date.

With one court serving every municipality, the right Preble County court docket turns less on which town appears on your citation and more on the type of case. The county’s small size and centralized municipal court make that the practical rule.
